Panda Pills

This is a little poem I wrote on the SB bus about a girl who I just met. Well, my interpretation at least.

Panda Pills

Upon magic trails,
Amidst fairy tales,
Where unicorns she’d see
With eyes of fire
And shimmering tails,
Now galloping with glee.

Pink interlaced white,
Fluorescently bright,
Pure manes of falling snow,
Her tranquil dreams
Once awash with light,
Now denied by a mother
Who wished her not to know.

“A dose of reality the child will quickly gain.
If I repress the creations of such fantasy,
Then I will have to ease my daughter’s fictitious pain,
With pills I just purchased from our local pharmacy.”

A glass of water to ease them down.
Not long, those fantasies disappeared,
Amidst a sea of lies for her to drown,
Until her heart was caged and reared.

“Here, my love, a panda is much more enjoyable.
Remember their playful nature at the local zoo?
At eating and playing, they were more than capable,
And healthier than unicorns, most would say, don’t you.”

“But Mommy, why live like pandas do?
While they sit in cages at the zoo,
Unicorns are as beautiful as can be,
Truly happy, forever roaming free.”
